When and where is the meeting?

Who attends the Emerging Issues Forums?
State legislators, legislative staff, government officials, business representatives, policy experts, and others interested in learning more about free-market solutions public policy.

How much does the event cost?
Admission is free for legislators, staff, and government officials.

Are there travel scholarships available?
Yes, but only members of Heartland’s Legislative Forum are guaranteed them. There is a chance we may have some left over before the event. You can join the Legislative Forum for $99 for two years and $179 for a lifetime so it pays for itself!

How much are the travel scholarships available?
They are up to $350 towards your travel expenses including gas or mileage, parking, airfare, cabs, and public transportation. It does not cover internet or meals.

Is there accommodation available?
The Heartland Institute has a block of rooms reserved already at the J.W. Marriott so you don’t need to book anything other than your travel.

Can spouses attend?
Yes. Please include them on your registration if want to attend any of the meals or panels.

What will be covered at the event?
The event will cover innovative solutions to the top public policy issues that will face the states in 2017 and beyond in the areas of health care, fiscal policy, energy, environment, and education. We will also media and communications training to help you become an even more effective lawmaker.

Is parking included?

When should I arrive and leave?
Depending on traffic the host hotel is 45 minutes from George Bush Intercontinental Airport and 30 minutes from William P Hobby Airport by train or cab. The event kicks off with an opening reception on Tuesday, November 7 at 7 pm and the event will conclude with the closing dinner at the America First Energy Conference at 8 pm on Thursday, November 9.
